Sheriff’s Office Investigating Canal Suicide In Rome

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident they believe to be a suicide at the canal near South James Street.

Deputies located the vehicle of a reported missing person they were investigating and observed that someone had entered the water through the thin ice under a nearby bridge.

The Sheriff's Office initiated a rescue operation and a short time later the victim was successfully recovered from the canal.

As the incident is being investigated as a suicide, the identity of the victim will not be released.
