State Labor Department Releases April Unemployment Rates

The New York State Department of Labor has released local unemployment numbers for April.

The jobless rate in the Utica-Rome area was 5.7% last month, down from 6.1% in April of 2014. In addition, the state's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.7% in April, its lowest level since August 2008.

Meanwhile, the state's private sector job count increased by 126,200 from April 2014 to April 2015.  The number of private sector jobs in New York was 7,736,400 last month.
