State of Emergency Declared in Parts of New York – February 13, 2014

As a nor'easter slams into the northeastern United States, Governor Andrew Cuomo is declaring a state of emergency for the Mid-Hudson region, New York City, and Long Island.

In a written statement the Governor says he is declaring the emergency "...so that we can continue to efficiently respond to the storm and aid communities in need...These regions are expected to receive heavy snow that may accumulate at rates of around two to three inches per hour, which will make it difficult for plows to keep some roads clear.  New Yorkers should stay off of the roads and remain in their homes until the worst of the storm has passed."

The National  Weather Service says heavy snow with near blizzard conditions is falling or expected to fall in much of the state.  In some areas, including the Capital Region, snowfall of up to three inches per hour is forecast from Thursday night into Friday morning.
