State Police, Albany Police Searching For Suspect In Trooper Stabbing
A New York State Trooper is recovering from stab wounds received during an assault in the concourse of the Empire State Plaza.
Yesterday afternoon at around 3:15, Trooper Rodney Smith was approached by 18 year-old Eric Green, who started a conversation with him.
As Smith checked Green's ID, he was allegedly stabbed on the left side of his neck with a steak knife. During a brief struggle, he was stabbed again on the other side of his neck and was cut on his face, hands and arms.
Green then stole Smith's radio and left the building on foot. The Trooper was able to call for help using his cell phone.
Smith remains in stable condition at Albany Medical Center, but is expected to fully recover.
Green reportedly has ties to the Grand Street area of Albany, but his current address is not known. Anyone with information is urged to call State Police at (518) 474-5330.
