One local lawmaker is attempting to lessen the burden faced by municipalities because of unfunded mandates.

State Senator Joe Griffo says he is sponsoring a bill that prevents Albany from creating mandates without also providing funding to pay for them.

The lawmaker also called for a moratorium on mandates until the legislation is passed into law.

Griffo calls the legislation "common sense" and says it gives communities a chance to reduce costs and keep taxes down.
