State Trooper Fatally Shoots Man Along I-84 In Upstate NY

MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (AP) — A state trooper has fatally shot a man along Interstate 84 in upstate New York.

The shooting occurred at around 2 a.m. Thursday near exit 5A in the Orange County community of Montgomery.

Troopers were responding to reports of a disabled vehicle in the middle of the highway and a man walking along the westbound shoulder.

State police say in a news release that one trooper got out of the patrol car and spoke to the man while the other drove alongside them.

Police say the man refused to comply with their commands.

They say that the man was trying to get into the police car when the trooper outside shot him.

The man died at a hospital.
