A family of five has been displaced by a fire that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Verona.

The fire began shortly before 2:30 p.m. at a residence on Canal Street. Multiple departments were called to the scene and assisted in battling the blaze. The New London Volunteer Fire Department, Durhamville Fire Department, Vienna Fire Department, Taberg Fire Department and Sylvan Beach Fire Department all provided services at the residence.

The Mohawk Valley Chapter of the Red Cross provided assistance to the family in the form of finances, food, clothing and support. Two adults, a 10-year-old, and two 8-year-old children lived in the home. Volunteers from the Red Cross will remain available in the coming days to offer any assistance. In 2016, the MV Chapter of the Red Cross provided aid to over 2,000 people impacted by over 400 home fires.

There are no details yet as to the cause of the fire and there are no injuries reported at this time.
