
Students Organize Flip Flop 1K Run To Break World Record
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (AP) — Students at a New York high school are planning to break a world record by running in flip flops for 1 kilometer (0.62 mile).
Tappan Zee High School students in Orangeburg are hitting the pavement June 11 to break a Guinness world record currently held by Spain. The record is for the most people running a kilometer in flip flops for charity.
The New York Post reports (http://nyp.st/2qWw5u5 ) more than 845 people will have to show up to the run in flip flops to officially break the record.
The run is being held in memory of a local fifth-grade teacher who died last year, and proceeds will be given to a local animal shelter.
