Local officials gathered for a press conference on Friday to confirm the news that Austrian-based company, AMS, had withdrawn from their deal to occupy the yet-to-be-built chip fab plant at SUNY Poly. The money from the state for the project is said to remain in place, and SUNY Poly officials are responding.

SUNY Poly Spokesperson Morgan Hook says,

While today's [Friday] news is deeply disappointing for New York, President Sammakia is eager to quickly get SUNY Poly back on track by restoring the reputation of the Institute through a renewed commitment to research, education and transparency. President Sammakia also looks forward to working with ESD President and CEO Howard Zemsky to maintain SUNY Poly’s robust efforts in attracting some of the world's leading high-tech firms and business to the state.

President and CEO of Empire State Development, Howard Zemsky, will be in town this week to meet with local officials to come up with a plan to move forward. We will keep you updated as more information is provided.
