315 area code

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — People in central and eastern New York will have to get used to dialing more digits as new area code overlays take effect.

The much anticipated 315 overlay will go into effect starting on Saturday, February 11th, 2017. On this day and every one after you must dial either 315 prior to your call. The reason for this is 315 will no longer be the only area code in Central New York.

Get ready for a new area code in central New York.

The New York State Public Service Commission has approved an overlay in the 315 area code region.

Senator Joseph Griffo is calling on the New York State Public Service Commission to postpone any decision to change the existing 315 area code.

The New York State Public Service Commission has tabled its proposal to split the 315 area code until at least the third quarter of 2016.

A hearing will be held on Monday evening at the State Office Building concerning options for expansion of the 315  area code in the area. Each hearing will be preceded by an information session at which staff of the Department of Public Service will describe the proposals and be available to respond to questions...

It is bound to happen sometime, the 315 area code could run out of telephone numbers by 2015.

The State Public Service Commission has extended the public comment period on how to best create an additional area code in the 315 area code region until July 31st.
