Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Mohawk Valley International Soccer Tournament is gearing up for another year of a weekend full of soccer games with local teams representing many parts of the world. Organizers say the Redeemer Cup is a local and international event. "We've got teams whose players have come from all over the world. This is such a multi-cultural community in which we live, but we're all residents of the Mohawk Valley so it's international but it's our own," said Pastor Rick Andrews. He goes on to say, "We have teams from Bosnia, from Burma, from the Karen homeland, from the Ukraine the Somali Bantu, Kenyans." He said there's even an Italian and Iraqi team!

The Redeemer Cup will have 16 teams in total, broken up into groups of four, similar to the Soccer Cup. The tournament is free to attend and takes place during the last weekend of July at Proctor Park. The games kick off on Saturday July 30, from 10:30 to 6:00 p.m. And on Sunday, July 31, the play-off rounds will start at Noon and end at 6:00 p.m. The family event will also have the Utica Zoo Mobile at hand, music, a variety of foods, clowns, and a mini soccer camp for youngsters.
