NICHOLS, N.Y. (AP) — Tioga Downs is taking another step in its plans to expand into a resort casino.

The electronic gambling parlor and race track in the Southern Tier plans to break ground on a new adjacent hotel Tuesday. The 161-room property will also include space for conventions and other events.

New York state gambling regulators recently awarded a casino license to Tioga Downs. Las Vegas-style table games cannot begin until the commission approves final casino regulations, something that could happen as early as November.

Other casino projects that have also been awarded licenses from the state are under construction in Schenectady, the Catskills and the Finger Lakes.
