MOREAU, N.Y. (AP) — The beach at a state park in upstate New York has been closed because of a toxic algal bloom.

The state parks office says the swimming beach at Moreau Lake State Park in northern Saratoga County is off limits until the bloom subsides.

The algal bloom was found Tuesday by park workers who immediately closed the beach. Water tests sent to the state Department of Health came back positive for a harmful algal bloom. Park workers are continuing to monitor the water.

Park visitors are being advised to avoid the water and to keep their pets from going into or drinking from the lake.

According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, there were five new algal blooms found last week in bodies of water in New York.
