A social media giant known for its truncated witticisms (well, not everything is witty) may be considering a change in its published character limit.

Re/code's Kurt Wagner reported on January 5, 2016 that Twitter executives are actively considering a new limit of up to 10,000 characters.  Wagner had first reported on September 29, 2015 that Twitter was in development of a product that would allow them to expand the character limit.

The 10,000 character limit is the same limit used for direct messages.  While some support the move, the voices against the change have been loud.  The hashtag "Twitter10K" is the most popular topic trending on the social site as this post is being composed.
