Two Arrested In Wegmans Purse Snatching
A man and woman sought in connection with a purse snatching at the Wegmans Supermarket location in Clay, NY have been arrested and charged.
Charles Bennett, 26 of Sterling, NY, and Devin Benson, 20 of Red Creek, NY were arrested by State Police after authorities had released surveillance images from the store. They're accused of nabbing a woman's purse and face felony charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Identity Theft, along with a misdemeanor count of Conspiracy.
Additionally, Bennett is charged with felony Grand Larceny, police said.
In the initial press release from State Police, it noted that approximately 30 minutes after the victim's purse was stolen, the card was used to make a purchase at a Walmart store in Cicero.
Benson was issued an appearance ticket and released, while Bennett was found to be wanted on several outstanding warrants and remanded to custody, according to New York State Police.
