Madison County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a serious two-car accident that happened at approximately 12:10 p.m. this afternoon(Aug 8th)  in the Town of Eaton. The Madison County Sheriff department says that a vehicle operated by Cody Smith, 20, of Hamilton, NY was traveling south on Cole Road when Smith failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Cole Road and State Route 26.

Another vehicle driven by Sarah Rickey, 49, of Iowa City, Iowa, was heading north on Route 26 when it hit Smith's vehicle.

Rickey was transported to a Syracuse area hospital by ambulance with head and back injuries.

Smith was brought by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Kamara Swayze, 19, of Sherburne was one of two passengers in the back seat of Smith's vehicle and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The second passenger in Smith's back seat, Megan Viera, 18, of Sherburne was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital in serious condition.

A third passenger in Smith's car, Christopher Marshall, 19, of Hamilton was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Madison County Sheriffs say the investigation is ongoing at this time and Charges against Smith are pending.
