Two federal civil rights lawsuits filed against the City of Utica and the Utica Police Department have been dismissed.

The first lawsuit was for $7 million and was brought by Darren Smith, who claimed he was falsely arrested and maliciously prosecuted for an incident that happened in August of 2012.

The second suit alleged that the UPD used excessive force when they arrested Felix Rivera-Sanabria in March of 2013.
