Utica, NY (WIBX) - Utica College is hosting a Cyber Security Summit titled, "Best Defense: Joining Forces Against Emerging Cyber Threats." Organizers say the event, scheduled for June 3rd, will examine the current Cyber threat landscape, and highlight private and public educational partnerships aimed at combating Cyber crimes and attacks.

Raymond Philo is Director of Research at UC. He says the summit will also emphasize the areas capabilities to fight Cyber crimes. He said, "We view the upper Mohawk Valley as really the Silicone Valley of Cyber for the nation. Anchored by the Air Force Research Lab, as well as the high-tech firms that are located in the Griffiss Business Park, and other areas of the upper Mohawk Valley. We really have the capabilities to assist local government, state government and private industries, including the federal government in combating Cyber warfare."

RoAnn Destito, Commissioner of the State Office of General Services, will deliver the opening remarks. Other speakers include all four of the areas college presidents: Dr. Todd S. Hutton, Utica College; SUNYIT President, Wolf Yeigh; Dr. Randy Van Wagner, MVCC, and Dr. Ann Marie Murray, HCCC. Also, Thomas D. Smith, Director of the N.Y. State office of Cyber Security, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services will also present at the Summit. The Summit is not open to the public due to limited space, however, the college is holding a Job Fair immediately following the Summit, and officials say it's designed for those interested in working in the Cyber Security field.

The Details are as followed:

  • The summit will be held in the Carbone Family Auditorium of the Economic Crime, Justice Studies and Cybersecurity Building at Utica College from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The job fair, which is free and open to students, alumni and the public, will be held in the Library Concourse from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • Employers registered include: M.A. Polce Consulting Inc., U.S. Navy, BAE Systems, Assured Information Security Inc., ATC-NY, Center for Internet Security, CACI MTL Systems; N.Y. State Technology Enterprise Corporation and the U.S. Secret Service.
