Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Utica Police Department has booted their 100th vehicle. In honor of the milestone, officers are reminding anyone with unpaid parking tickets to pay up.

According to police, when a vehicle has been issued three or more parking tickets during an 18-month period that go unpaid, a letter is sent to the owner that their vehicle may be booted.

Once the boot is on, the person has 48 hours to obtain a release, otherwise, a no-contest is filed with the parking violations bureau and the city may tow the car.

To get a vehicle back, towing charges, storage fees and boot removal fees... along with those pesky parking tickets, must be paid.

UPD officials say the process can be shortened by paying for parking tickets before they pile up.
