The Utica Police Department is predicting they will hire around 30 new candidates for the next Police Academy Class.

Chief Mark Williams and the UPD held an informational meeting and workshop for potential candidates at Utica City Hall Wednesday night.

Chief Williams said the workshop is meant to teach candidates what the job entails, what materials to study for the written exam and most importantly how to prepare for the physical agility test that more than 50% of candidates fail.

The Chief added that aside from the physical agility test, the interview process can make or break a candidate.

The deadline to file for the exam is September 30, and the test will be given on November 15.
