Utica Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery

A Utica man has been arrested for attempted robbery following an incident at Cliff's Market on Genesee Street in New Hartford.

New Hartford Police say 26-year old Tyrie Sweeting went into the store during the overnight hours of May 31st to make bottle returns and became upset when some of his returns were declined by a store employee

Police say Sweeting got into a verbal and physical confrontation with the employee and attempted to steal merchandise from behind the counter.

They say after punching the employee in the face, Sweeting fled the store without any merchandise.

Sweeting was spotted later in the day by an off-duty police officer walking along Genesee Street and was taken into custody after a foot pursuit.

No one was injured during the robbery or subsequent arrest.
