A Utica man is being charged with attempted larceny after he allegedly tried to steal children's bikes from a home in New Hartford.

According to a written release from New Hartford Police, officers were called to a home on Heatherwood Road at approximately 7:55pm on Sunday, August 30, 2015 after residents said that they saw a man trying to take six bicycles belonging to neighborhood children from a neighbor's lawn.

One resident confronted the suspect, who allegedly replied that he thought that the bicycles were scrap.  Other neighbors became involved and remained with the suspect until police arrived.

The bikes were returned to the children and the suspect, 55-year-old Mirsad Mujic, was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of petit larceny.  Mujic was released and is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges at a later date.
