Utica Man Sentenced In Olbiston Apartments Homicide

A Utica man was sentenced today in Oneida County Court for his role in the death of man at the Olbiston Apartments last August.

39-year old Eric Smith was charged in the death of 49-year old John Calenda.

Utica Police say Smith hit Calenda in the head with a board during an altercation in the rear parking lot area of the building.  Calenda died "hours" later from his injuries.

Smith had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter

He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, with five years of post release supervision.
