A Utica man involved in a shooting incident with a Utica Police officer at Addison Miller Playground on Sunday died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen.

An autopsy conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the cause of death of 19-year old Jessie Rose a suicide.

Chief Mark Williams says Officer Anthony Ellis fired two shots at the suspect after Rose pointed a rifle at him, hitting Rose in the hand

Williams says Rose then took his own weapon and fired a shot into his abdomen.

He says Officer Ellis acted properly.

Williams says they found three notes on Rose that pointed to suicide.

Ellis has been place on administrative leave.

He say the investigation into the incident will ultimately be reviewed by the Oneida County District Attorney's Office.
