Utica Teen Arrested Following Pursuit for Stealing a Vehicle

A Utica teenager has been arrested for allegedly stealing a car in New York Mills.

According to police, officers attempted to stop the 2015 tan Ford Focus that had been reported stolen when the driver failed to comply. This led officers on a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit began in West Utica and ended in an accident with an unoccupied vehicle on the 500 block of Blandina Street.

Following the accident the suspect fled on foot and after a short pursuit and brief struggle, officers were able to take him in to custody on the 500 block of Mary Street.

The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Lauren A. Smith of Utica. He was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest and several traffic violations. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
