Utica, NY (WIBX) - In a game highlighted by defense and the weather, the Utica Yard Dogs continued their winning ways by beating the Cortland Bulldogs 13-0 Saturday night at Proctor Stadium.

On a rain-soaked and wind-swept Proctor Field, the Yard Dogs’ defense took center stage and shut down the Bulldogs’ offense with key plays at critical times during the contest. Defensive back Alex Heath led the way with 3 interceptions, giving him a total of 5 on the young season. Defensive lineman Duane Balandis recovered 2 fumbles, and defensive back Matt Vincent added one of his own. Key quarterback sacks were turned in by defensive ends Jason Pearson and David Culver, and linebacker Jason Norfolk.

On the offensive side of the ball, Justin Pearson with 53 yards on 14 carries led all rushers, followed closely by Michael Mason’s 45 yards on 6 carries. Wide receiver Reshaud Porch added 2 pass receptions for 30 yards. Fullback Dustin Seymour scored the game’s only touchdown on a 2-yard run on the Yard Dogs’ first possession of the game. Placekicker Jed Lamont added two 27-yard field goals.

The Yard Dogs, now 2-0, play at home this Saturday (June 18th) against the Glove Cities Colonials at 7:30 p.m at Proctor Stadium.  It will be “Team Photo Night”.  The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free team photo courtesy of Rome Volkswagen.
