Senator David Valesky says although his name remains on the November ballot, he will no longer seek re-election to the State Senate.

Valesky lost to Rachel May in the Democratic Primary for the 53rd District State Senate seat in September and had been considering running an independent campaign.

He says in the interest of providing clarity of choice for voters, it's time for that process to end.

Valesky says he's looking forward to continuing to work on behalf of his constituents in his final three months in office, after which he'll pursue new opportunities.

He says it has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve the people of Central New York the past fourteen years, but the time has come to move on.
