A video from a UPD dashboard camera from back in February of 2011 has recently surfaced and quickly went viral on the internet.  The video is alleged to show a Utica Police officer planting evidence, presumably a baggie of drugs, during a traffic stop.

The video, first released and obtained by the Utica Phoenix weekly newspaper, shows what some contend is the planting of evidence. It's just past :50 seconds into the video when the alleged plant takes place.

WIBX is awaiting word from both the Utica Police Department and Utica Phoenix newspaper for further comment on this video.

Utica Police have responded by releasing the entire video of the traffic stop.  Utica's Police Chief, Mark Willams, tells WKTV-TV,

the matter was thoroughly investigated.

"He's going into the car with it and that's what he's doing, it's cold out and he's basically separating the drugs from both defendants," says Chief Williams.

Williams also questions why the officers would plant evidence knowing they were being recorded on video.

The Utica Phoenix website is currently off-line.
