Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Vernon-Verona-Sherill School District Budget was defeated last night and Superintendent Norman Reed says the district is now faced with three options. They include putting the same budget back up for a another vote, proposing an amended budget to the voters, or moving directly to a contingent budget.

In a released statement Reed said, "The 2011-2012 school budget presents extraordinary challenges to the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School Community. V.V.S. is highly dependent on State Aid to fund its programs. The significant loss of State Aid over the last three years has thrust the district into a structural deficit. In preparing the proposed budget for 2011-2012, the district was faced with both daunting tax hikes as well as cuts to our programs and staffing."

He goes onto to says that moving forward, the specific option the Board of Education chooses will determine the district's future course of action. V.V.S. was the only school budget defeated in Oneida County last night.
