Gas prices are plummeting across the nation (currently at $2.94); but, in the Greater Utica region, our prices are still hovering at the $3.30 to $3.40 range.  Why is that?

One week ago in Syracuse, the member price for a Fast Trac store in Syracuse was at $3.08.  This week, prices at some spots in Syracuse were below $3.00 while in Utica prices were averaging over $3.30.

According to AAA, Syracuse's average price is at $3.16 while Utica's average price is at $3.36.  Utica's average price in October was at $3.60.  Around New York State, Albany's average price is $3.22, Binghamton is at $3.23, Rochester is at $3.31 and Buffalo is at $3.39.

Triple A's Ed Welsh told WIBX's Bill Keeler that he's not surprised.  He said the way Utica's pricing is structured keeps the prices higher and some of that has to do with the fact that the volume of gas sold is lower here.

BJ's (member prices) and Hess stations are reporting the lowest prices in the Utica area.  Welsh predicts that prices will continue to drop and says we may see prices below $3.00 by Thanksgiving.
