Woman Avoids Serious Injury Driving The Wrong Way On Route 12
A Utica woman escaped serious injury after crashing into a guard rail while driving the wrong way on Route 12 in Deerfield.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says 80-year old Dolores Ganim was traveling south in the northbound lane.
They say she nearly crashed head-on into several vehicles before her car slammed into the guard rail and came to rest in a ditch between Route 12 and Horatio Street.
Ganim suffered a cut lip, but refused further medical treatment. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
Ganim told deputies she thought she was driving on the Parkway in Utica and was confused as to how she ended up on Route 12.
She was issued a citation for traveling in the wrong direction on the highway.
