THOMPSON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 33-year-old man is dead and two other people are hospitalized after a wrong-way crash on an upstate New York highway.

State police say 50-year-old Patrick Collins, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of state Route 17 around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when his vehicle collided with a westbound car in the Sullivan County town of Thompson, 75 miles (120 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

Troopers say the driver of the westbound car, 33-year-old Luiz Diaz of nearby Monticello, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 27-year-old Cynthia Acevedo, also of Monticello, was injured.

She and Collins were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. Information on their injuries and conditions hasn't been released.
