TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a fatal crash has shut down Interstate 290 in western New York.

The Tonawanda Police Department says the crash happened around 1 a.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of the highway between the Niagara Falls Boulevard and Colvin Avenue exits.

The highway was shut down, and traffic was diverted for more than four hours as police investigated the scene.

Officials have not said how many cars were involved in the crash, or if there were other injuries.

The highway was reopened by 5:30 a.m.
