LYSANDER, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a 13-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a minivan while walking alongside a central New York road.

Troopers were called to River Road in the Onondaga County town of Lysander around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an accident involving pedestrian and vehicle.

Police say 13-year-old Lucas Delong, of Lysander, was walking on the shoulder of the road when he ran into the path of a minivan driven by a 44-year-old woman from nearby Cicero. Troopers say the woman tried to swerve but couldn't avoid hitting the teen.

The boy was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he later died from his injuries.

Trooper's say there's no indication the driver was impaired or using a cellphone at the time of the accident.
