"Operation Tax Burden" has led to the arrest of 16 local residents.

The Oneida County District Attorney's Office says the individuals were charged with committing crimes against revenue, including Medicaid, Public Assistance and Food Stamp Fraud.

The following individuals were arrested on charges including Grand Larceny, Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Misuse of Food Stamps.

  • Yvonne Conte, Utica
  • Jamie Cough, Utica
  • Michael Cough, Utica
  • Brandy Galan, Westernville
  •  Wendell Heyward, Utica
  •  Joseph Lapaglia, Utica
  •  Audra Mahler, Utica
  • Ronald McConnell, Utica
  •  Jamique S. Nelson. Utica
  •  Roger L. Patterson, Utica
  • Supreme R. Smith, Utica
  • Nicholas Vaughn, Utica
  • Amanda Zayas, Utica

In addition to the recent arrests, 40 others were charged during the first nine months of the year for similar crimes against revenue.

The DA's Office says more people are being sought as part of the ongoing operation.
