
19-Year-Old Man Drowns While Swimming In Upstate NY Creek
CHATHAM, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old New York man has drowned while swimming with friends in an upstate creek.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says it received a 911 call around 4:45 p.m. Sunday reporting a missing swimmer in Stoney Kill Creek in the town of Chatham, 20 miles southeast of Albany. Emergency crews and police dive teams responded to the scene and recovered a man's body about an hour later in 15 feet of water.
Police identified the man as Brett Cappelli of nearby Valatie (vuh-LAY'-shuh).
Officials say the group was on private property at the time and the area where the drowning occurred is posted for no swimming.
