Utica Police Investigating Sunday Morning Drowning of 6 Yr Old Girl
Police in Utica are investigating a mysterious drowning early Sunday morning, that most likely is not related to tremendous storm that struck the city and region.
According to Police, on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Utica Police units were dispatched to the 1100 block of Hammond Avenue regarding a missing 6-year-old female.
It was unknown exactly when the child initially went missing, however officers were able to locate Ring surveillance footage from a neighboring residence showing the child walking down the driveway at about 5:40 a.m.. As officers began to look for the child they noticed her in an unresponsive condition in an in-ground pool at the residence in question. Police say, the officers immediately removed the child from the pool and began CPR, and according to the UPD release, "trying every possible way to save the child."
According to Police, the Utica Fire Department transported the child to Wynn Hospital, and despite more life saving measures, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
In conducting the on-scene investigation it was learned that the pool was enclosed with fencing, and the gates were securely locked. The investigation into how the child entered the pool is on-going. It's not known if the owners of the pool knew the 6-year-old.
Police say their investigation is continuing, and they added, their "thoughts and prayers are with the family of the little girl, and updates about the incident will be released as available."
