A Schenectady County man in his 20s drowned while trying to save his girlfriend after their inflatable boat overturned near the Broadalbin Boat Launch on Great Sacandaga Lake. Authorities recovered his body the next morning.
Utica police are investigating a tragic drowning incident involving a 6-year-old girl that took place early on June 22, 2025. The police responded to a report of a missing child around 7:40 a.m. when they learned that the girl had disappeared from her home. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence showed her walking down the driveway at approximately 5:40 a.m. During the search, officers found the child unresponsive in an inground pool at a residence. They immediately performed CPR before the Utica Fire Department transported her to Wynn Hospital, where, despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead.
Initial investigations revealed that the pool was secured with a locked fence, raising questions about how the child could have accessed it. The police are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and it remains unclear if the pool's owners were acquainted with the girl. The police expressed their condolences to the family and stated that further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
