SYRACUSE,N.Y. (AP) — Authorities in Syracuse say two people are hospitalized after the car they were in crashed into a tree while the driver was trying to elude police.

Police say a patrol officer spotted a car running a red light at an intersection of Erie Boulevard around 8 p.m. Sunday. The officer tried to pull the car over but the driver refused to stop.

The officer pursued the car, which bumped another vehicle while attempting to pass it. Police say the fleeing vehicle then crashed into a tree.

Officials say the driver and a passenger were taken to Upstate University Hospital, where both are listed in stable condition.

Police say the driver will be charged.
