HUNTER, N.Y. (AP) — Three skiers have suffered fatal injuries in less than two months while using new trails at New York's popular Hunter Mountain ski area.

Spokeswoman Katie O'Connor tells the Times Union that officials at the Catskills resort are "completely devastated."

The deaths occurred on Jan. 19, Feb. 2 and last Saturday. Hunter Mountain had no fatalities last season.

O'Connor says all three deaths have been "thoroughly investigated." She says there's no evidence that trail configurations were a factor.

O'Connor says conditions are closely monitored and the trails are closed if they're too dangerous.

The National Ski Areas Association reports that 37 skiers and snowboarders died at U.S. ski areas in the 2017-18 season, down from 44 the year before.
