Utica, NY (WIBX) - The gymnasium at Thomas R. Proctor High School was filled with cheers Friday as the Raiders boys basketball team shot its way to victory against Christian Brothers Academy, in the Sectional 3 AA Quarterfinals, 52-39.

Top-seeded Proctor (17-2), led by head coach, Norm Stamboly, made a statement on their first shot, when Chris Simmons sunk a three pointer from the wing. Simmons would go on to have 14 points on the night.

CBA (12-8) fired back, though, answering with four quick points and taking the lead. They would lose that lead for good early in the second quarter.

Proctor started the second quarter down by three, but rallied with an 8-0 run to pull ahead, 17 to 12. During that span, Maurice Mills thrilled the crowd with a dunk, while Simmons added on a three point play after getting fouled.

From that point, the Raiders never looked back, stretching the lead out to as many as 18, before a late rally led by CBA's Charlie Russo, in the last quarter.

The Raiders scoring was led by a 16 point effort from Mills, and Simmons' 14. Lavoy Leggett pitched in another 13 points.

CBA was paced by guard Aaron Morgan with 15 points, with forward Dylan Haines adding another 8 and guard Charlie Russo contributing 7.

Proctor will take on fifth-seeded Cicero-North Syracuse next Friday night.
