After Snowy Thursday, Brutal Cold Grips Upstate New York

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Temperatures have plunged below zero across parts of upstate New York a day after lake-effect storms dumped 1 to 2 feet of snow on parts of the region.

The National Weather Service says it's 16 below zero Friday morning in Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, while other parts of the state are in the teens or single digits.

The arctic blast arrived Thursday as storms off of Lake Erie dropped a foot of snow on the Buffalo area and blizzard conditions pummeled communities along Lake Ontario's southern shore. The weather service says Rochester received a foot of snow, while the Tug Hill region north of Syracuse got 18 to 24 inches.

More snow is in the forecast for the weekend, although temperatures are expected to rise into the 30s and even the 40s in some upstate areas.
