Utica, NY (WIBX) - The American Heart Association is gearing up for its annual Go Red For Women Luncheon on Wednesday. The Noon event at Hart's Hill Inn in Whitesboro, is aimed at raising awareness about the number one killer of both men and women.

Often called the silent killer, heart disease affects men and women differently. Researchers say, one difference is that women tend to get the disease, or notice they have a heart problem, ten years later then men. And, their prognosis is often worse when finally in the care of their doctor.

Either way, they say heart disease is highly preventable and both sexes need to focus on improving their overall health to prevent heart disease. Also, it's recommended that people educate themselves on the symptoms of heart disease and have regular check ups. You can learn more about the upcoming event, as well as, the leading cause of death, by contacting the American Heart Association at (315) 266-5403.
