The initial meeting of the Mohawk Valley Anti-Poverty Task Force was held at the State Office Building in Utica on Thursday.

The meeting was hosted by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente.

Picente says the task force is a subcommitte of the MV500 economic development project and  is designed to be a working group to fight poverty throughout the Mohawk Valley.

He says poverty is an issue in every community across the United States and it's no different here.  Picente says as you develop a strategy for growth, there is clearly a population that needs growth more than others.

Representatives from area agencies involved in combating poverty and other local leaders attended the meeting.
