The Utica Comets opened up training camp on Monday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Heading into their second season in Utica, the Comets are looking to expand on the successes of their first season where they fell short of the AHL playoffs.

With 14 of last year's core players returning, Head Coach Travis Green says he's excited about the season and wants to continue working on the conditioning that the team showed last year.

When asked about expectation from the Utica fans, Green said hes hoping it's more of the same from last year, because the support for the Comets - even when they weren't winning was important to him.

This year the Comets will also have New Hartford native Mike Zelewski on the roster.

Zalewski, who was sent to the Comets from Vancouver last week says he's been thinking about the Home opener on October 22, since he learned he was coming to Utica.

The team also announced today that Goaltender Joacim Eriksson has been assigned back to the Comets. Eriksson played 52 games as the Comets keeper last year and recorded 5 shutout wins.

The Comets will play the Adirondack Flames in a home exhibition game on Friday at the Kennedy Arena in Rome in front of a sold out crowd.
