Authorities Find Body Of Missing Woman, 23, in Erie Canal

PERINTON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they've found the body of a missing western New York woman in the Erie Canal.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say 23-year-old Sonya Seetharam was found in the canal in Perinton around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Investigators say she was reported missing by her family Saturday evening.

Her body was spotted in an area near where marine and scuba units were searching.

It's unclear when or how the Perinton woman got into the water.

The woman's death remains under investigation.
