Ava Man Taken Into Custody After Standoff With Police

Ava, NY (WIBX) - A standoff on Route 294 in Ava ended last night when police arrested a man who had barridcaded himself inside his home.

State Police say 52-year old Michael Besaw called 9-1-1 and threatened to kill dispatchers there and any police who were sent to his home.

Troopers and Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home.

Attempts to persuade Besaw to surrender were unsuccessful.

He was eventually taken into custody following a brief struggle with members of the State Police Special Operations Response Team.

Besaw was charged with aggravated harassment and resisting arrest.
