Blankets Made At Oneida County Jail Donated To Local Nursing Home
Each year, several female inmates at the Oneida County Jail take part in a sewing program in which they make hand-sewn blankets that are then donated to a local organization.
Sheriff Robert Maciol says several large blankets made by the inmates this year have been donated to the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Oriskany.
According to Sheriff Maciol, “Not only are these blankets going to those who really need them, but at the same time, the inmates are learning a very valuable skill that they can take with them when they transition back into the community after their release”.
He says the materials to make the blankets are paid for through Inmate Program monies and come at no cost to the taxpayer.
