Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says today's ruling by the State Court of Appeals upholding a lower court's decision that local governments have the right to ban hydrofracking is an important victory for Mohawk Valley residents.

He says the ruling affirms their right to say no to a practice that could change the landscape of upstate New York forever.

Brindisi says he remains vehemently opposed to fracking until the state has more time to study its potential consequences.

But since many Mohawk Valley localities have already decided to prohibit fracking,  Brindisi says this groundbreaking ruling upholds their right to preserve the character of the places they live in.
