Absentee ballots are to be counted in Broome County with one race that could be impacted by the result.

At the end of election night, District Attorney challenger, Republican Stephen Cornwell declared victory over incumbent Democrat District Attorney Gerald Mollen, having a lead of 587 votes.

There are 1,917 absentee ballots to be counted.

The tally is being done at the Broome County Board of Elections offices.

Mollen had been seeking his eighth term as District Attorney.

Once all the absentee, military and provisional ballots are counted, the result will is to be certified November 17.
